Mount Emrys was a volcano in the Daumende mountain range on the East of Shuul. The eruption of Emrys was the event that marked the start of the fifth era, but was historically significant for more than marking the passage of time; the first dragons, Beithir and Ruanil were born from it. A crater was blown in the top of the mountain in a thunderous explosion that was felt across Auriin, unleashing the dragons that had lain dormant under the land since a time unknown.
Emrys remained active through the seventh era, frequently bellowing clouds of ash into the skies of Shuul. These frequent eruptions were destructive, but were also responsible for keeping the land to the east, in Nurfel and southern Fëaforn, fertile.
